KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
The charm of this relatively unknown area, with its olive groves and vineyards and its proximity to the medieval and renaissance delights of Italy, makes it a wonderful place for a perfectly relaxing and cultural holiday.
Located near the old Roman Basilicata of Vescovio, just 50km north of Rome, La Casetta enjoys just over two acres of mature garden grounds with private pool, shady vine covered gazebo's, BBQ and lovely views over the Aia river valley. The village of Tarano is within walking distance, only 1km away, and here you will find a grocery shop, chemist, butcher and a bar with 'tavola calda' home-cooked food to take away. Within a 500m walk of the house are two family-run restaurants, one famous in the area for its grilled meats.
The nearby towns of Torri in Sabina, Roccantica, Poggio Catino and Cantalupo also provide a good range of amenities with weekly markets, supermarkets, shops and some excellent restaurants. There are some lovely walks in the area and walking or biking tours can be arranged with a guide.
This is an deal base for exploring a very picturesque but un-touristy area of Italy, whilst being only an hour away (by car or train) from the bustling city of Rome. The convenient location also allows for daily excursions to some of the most historically interesting sites of Latium and Umbria, with Spoleto, Orvieto and Assisi and the famous Etruscan sites of Viterbo, Tarquinia and Tuscania all being within easy reach for day-trips. The local train stations operate a frequent service to Rome.
